Happy Holidays! Part 1- Quick and Tasty Appetizers!

Today starts our Holiday planning series!  Each day I will focus on a different aspect of planning food to make your holiday special!

Today, we’ll start by focusing on holiday parties!  And, that means appetizer time!  If your anything like me, you are trying how to figure out when you are going to get everything done before Christmas!  So, who has time to make  appetizers for a party?  Surprise!  You do!  Whether you just need one to take to a party or you are hosting a party and need a lot.  Here are some great ideas that taste great without  taking forever to make!

I’ll start with my personal favorite.  Bronco Bob’s Raspberry Chipolte Sauce is amazing!  All you need is a bottle of the sauce, a block of cream cheese, and your favorite crackers.  And, in just seconds, you have your first appetizer.  I can guarantee if you bring this to a party, people will be asking how you made it and begging you for your secret recipe so they can have it again!  And, the beautiful presentation makes quite an impression, as well.  Just let the block of cream cheese sit out for a few minutes until slightly softened.  Then drizzle the sauce on the cream cheese and let it flow down onto the plate.   And, you’re finished!  You might want to consider bringing two blocks of cream cheese because it’ll go pretty fast.  And, you don’t need that much sauce for each block.

Another easy appetizer is our new holiday kettlecorn-  white chocolate peppermint!  I was a skeptic until I tried it.  And, even though it tastes amazing, I wasn’t sure about putting it into the “great appetizer” category until I saw this!  It’s all in the presentation.  And, at the Cracked Egg Cooking School, they know how to present it!  They also suggested getting out the punchbowl, putting some of the kettle corn in there and then filling the little punch bowl cups with more of the kettle corn.

I love bread!  So, one of my favorite appetizers is take and bake bread with olive oil and bread dipping seasonings.  It smells so wonderful coming out of the oven!

At Al’s and Barney’s, we are happy to be the exclusive retailers for Heston Cheese!  Heston Supper Club has been known for the fabulous cheese they serve for many years.  So, when they decided to market it, we jumped at the chance to offer it to our customers!  Choose your favorite crackers (We also have Heston Flats!) and Heston Cheese, and you’ll be sad at the end of the party when there’s none left for you to take home!

Want something healthy to take to your party?  You can buy your fruits and veggies and cut them up.  Or, we’ll make your fruit or veggie trays for you!  By the way, fruit baskets make great hostess gifts!

All of these ideas are quick, easy, and tasty!  They are sure to be enjoyed by all of your guests.  And, since you don’t have to spend all of your time worrying about the food, you’ll enjoy all of your guests!

Foodscapes: amazing food art by Carl Warner

Carl Warner is a London-based photographer who makes foodscapes: landscapes made of food. In the picture above, a pea pod boat sails away from a land made of bread and potatoes, over a sea of salmon

Hot air balloons made of a variety of fruit and veg soar over fields of asparagus, courgettes, beans and corn

Parmesan cliffs with sweet potato boulders and cress and savoy cabbage foliage

with rocks made of oyster shells and crab claws, boats made of marrows and asparagus, and a shining, slivery, slippery sea of fish
